Acrylic on wood and ceramic sculpture – mixed media 2025
El aullido means scream in Spanish, and this mixed media work shows a bear’s head coming from a painted surface, mouth open wide with a primal scream.
Sculpted in ceramic with expressive, textured modeling, the bear’s face captures a moment of unfiltered emotion: anger, power, pain.
The fiery red and orange tones that saturate the wooden backdrop intensify the animal’s presence, evoking heat and danger. The flatness of the background contrasts with the volume of the sculpture, drawing the viewer into a space where painting and object, symbol and force, converge.
It’s for me an allegory to the beginning of summer, the frustration of being scared of not obtaining my resident visa and being kicked out of the country, the beautiful feeling of the heat and the soft color of days lasting longer than in my own country.
This piece explores themes of instinct, intensity, and confrontation, capturing something elemental that lies beneath the surface of both animal and human experience. It is a sculpture that doesn’t just exist, it roars.
