Painting and ceramic sculpture raku – mixed media 2025
Coquelicot is an art piece that I truly love because its mixes perfectly what I want to mix in my art: the technicity, the story and the emotion.
In Coquelicot a ceramic head sculpted and raku-fired is suspended at the center of the canvas, appearing to float in this field of azure blue, lost in a peaceful place, the woman is closing her eyes to enjoy this moment.
At the bottom there are poppies releasing their petals into the air, some gently settling onto the face as if drawn by an invisible breeze
The use of the raku technique gives the sculpture its distinctive texture and natural crackles, imbuing the piece with a sense of fragility and timelessness. The unpredictable nature of raku firing echoes the organic movement of the petals.
The contrast between the raw, fire-marked surface of the sculpture and the light, expressive brushwork of the flowers creates a poetic tension. The human figure, marked by dark speckles and vivid red accents, becomes both a witness to and a vessel for the surrounding nature.
Coquelicot explores the boundary between the visible and the emotional, the body and its environment, identity and time. It invites stillness, reflection, and a quiet sense of wonder while remaining a peaceful art piece.
